Why It’s So Important To Go To Every Sporting Event as a Senior
Story By: Olivia Jaynes/Editor
It seems that almost every underclassmen never seems to understand why the seniors are so controlling of student sections at games.
It’s just another football game, right?
Well, it’s not -- 174 days -- that’s why.
From football games to cross country meets, tennis matches, softball games, and basketball games, the list goes on and on.
Seniors have waited three years to finally be in the front row of the student section, losing their voices from cheering so loud.
But it’s not about entitlement.
From the minute the class of 2017 walked into William Chrisman as freshmen, who went to which middle school no longer mattered.
Walking down the hall every day, seeing the same familiar faces and meeting new ones on the way, the days until graduation decreases little by little without anyone noticing. 174 days, that’s it.
Although, people may only think the rivalry games are the important ones, that doesn’t quite seem right.
The football games where it is pouring down rain, people are running inside to get out of the storm, and inside the gym a dance party breaks out, are the important ones.
The basketball games where the score is tied the whole night, and the buzzer beater shot is made, and everyone is screaming and hugging with excitement, are the important ones.
What does 174 days have anything to do with sports?
174 is approximately how many school days are in a year.
174 days until seniors graduate and part their separate ways, maybe to never come back to Independence again.
Yes, it may just be “another football game”, but this could be the game that is remember for years to come.
Make it the game where everyone knows what “bear pride” really means. Cheer your class on through the games where there is no chance of winning and the games where there is no chance of losing.
Soak up every second of it class of 2017, and underclassmen keep the tradition strong.
Don’t say “I wish I would’ve been at that game.”
Say “Oh my gosh, I remember that game!”
