With state competition coming up the William Chrisman debate team is finishing up their preparation, looking to have yet another successful showing at state competition.
The team's state qualifiers, junior Shawn Bunce and senior Claire Cook seem to be confident this year, with both qualifiers having state competition experience and also having a strong season this year.
“I did well last year but had a lot of room for improvement and now that I know my competition more and have critiqued my radio piece to appeal more to the judges,” said Bunce.
Senior Claire Cook also prepares with confidence this year after finishing the season placing in conference and nearly qualifying to the national tournament.
“I am more confident this year because I’ll be competing in both of my events and I also have experience from last year,” said Cook. “It’s crazy to believe this will be my last competition in high school, but i want to end my high school career on a good note.”
Bunce on the other hand is just a junior who already has state experience, with a bright future ahead of him.
“Nationals is my number one goal but I also really want to do well in state before i finish high school.” said Bunce
Debate teammates have respect for the duo’s success.
“Those two deserve to compete at state, they’ve worked extremely hard all year and have had a good season, I truly believe they can finish on a good note and represent our team well,” said junior teammate Tyler Edwards.
