Story By: Izzy Janes
Every year, choral students from all over the state get the opportunity to try out for All State Choir, which is a prestigious group of musically talented students.
This year one of Chrisman’s very own made the cut.
Senior Anna O’Renick, is a soprano in Concert Chorale as well as Blue and Gold, under the direction of Chrisman’s choral teacher Dr. Ron Patch.
She was one of the select few from our district to be chosen and the first All Stater from Chrisman in three years.
The audition process began in at the beginning of the school year.
There were 168 sopranos at Districts and 33 moved on to state. Of those 33 sopranos, six of them were chosen to be in All State Choir. There were also 2 alternates.
She received her music and began practices in the beginning of December.
In total, there were around 200 singers in the choir. They were under the direction of Dr. Julie Yu, who is the Co-Director of Choral Studies at K-State.
“This was such a unique opportunity. Dr. Yu was amazing and I got to meet so many extremely talented people.” said O’Renick when speaking on her experience.
This was O’Renick’s first time making All State, however she has made District for the past 3 years.
“It’s just such an awesome thing when a student accomplishes something like this. You just feel so good for the student and proud of all the hard work they have put in.” said Dr. Patch.
The All State Choir performed at the MMEA convention, which is held in Tan Tar A at the Lake of the Ozarks. She stayed there for from January 27th to the 30th.
