Eight William Chrisman juniors will have a little extra help with college funding after receiving the prestigious KC Scholars Scholarship, which was announced this week.
Applicants had to, “write two essays, get two recommendations and answer a ton of questions.” said junior Faith Kolb.
Rudy Acosta, Nicolette Bowman, Emily Copeland, Faith Kolb, Ashley Cuevas Rodriguez, Mackenzie Rohrbach, Bryan Sontay and Emori Thomas all will receive $10,000 a year for up to 5 years in college at a select 17 colleges/universities.
The 17 schools that were on the list were, Avila University, Baker University, Donnelly College, Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Kansas State University, Lincoln University, Metropolitan Community College, Park University, Rockhurst University, University of Central Missouri, University of Kansas, University of Missouri, Western Governors University, and William Jewell College.
“If I don’t play sports in college I will most likely go to Missouri State or K-State and it will pay a good chunk of the tuition,” said junior Emori Thomas.
There were many students that put in a lot of time and effort trying to receive this scholarship for a plethora of reasons. For some students the scholarship was necessary to continue their education past high school.
This scholarship opened up many doors for juniors that have made figuring out their future a little bit easier.
Junior Nicolette Bowman said this scholarship meant being able to continue her education despite financial status.
“It will help pay for stuff my parents can’t. The money & scholarships are the only thing that will make college possible,” said junior Emily Copeland.
Many juniors are using this as a jumping off point to start deciding where they will continue their education at.
“Attending UMKC for the six year medical program,” said Junior Ashley Cuevas Rodriguez
Rudy Acosta said he just knows he wants to get a four year degree.
