Cell Phones Prove Both Beneficial, Problematic in Classroom

Ever since their release, cellphones have become a need. We use them for texting, calling,snapchat, facebook, youtube, games and we even use them as tools to help us in our everyday life.
Since technology has become such a major part of our lives, it was only a matter of time before it reached the school system.
From having to carry textbooks and folders, technology has made it possible to have all those things online and they can be accessed anywhere, at anytime. Cell phones have made it possible to carry all the information and things you need in a handheld portable device.
The use of cellphone use in the classroom has become a big concern to parents and teachers. There is a mixed opinion on the issue regarding cell phone use in the classroom.
“There’s some pros and cons Mainly depending on your point of view, From a teacher points it’s only good if you want to check your grades or something but otherwise it’s a bit of a distraction and there's no use for it, from the student anyones gonna say yes mainly because they can’t be without it,” said Junior Abraham Vasquez
Cell phones use in the classroom has been a thing since they came out with students texting during class but this seemed to get worse once smart phones came out.Smartphones are able to download apps/games, These game and social media apps became and are a distraction in the classroom.
Surprisingly students weren’t the only ones misusing cellphones in the classroom. Teachers also use cell phones to text or check social media.
Being able to use your cellphone in class is a privilege with some teachers allowing you to use it once you’re done with work and other teachers allowing you to listen to music on your cellphone. But they are not just a privilege in the classroom, some teachers see cellphones as a tool.
Here’s sophomore Cassidy Spaulding comment “As long as it's used responsibly and I'm doing my work I feel like it's fine.. If you have good grades you should be able to use your phone”
Shikhar Srivastava said “If it’s for educational purposes it's fine”
You can use your phone as a timer, use it to take notes and some teachers allow students to use their phone to play Kahoot which is a quiz game. Google classroom can also be accessed on a cellphone allowing students to be able to work on projects on the go. They can also quiz on their cellphones download apps to help them study. Social media apps such as twitter can be used to remind students of class work.
This topic will always have mixed opinions due to the advancement in technology and the ability to use phones as a tool and that phones are becoming an everyday part of life as well as a distraction.
“I think that students should and shouldn’t have their phones out in class. They should because there are certain times they will need them like if they have to use a calculator or to look something up. But also I think there are times where students shouldn’t have their phones because they could be a distraction.” Said Freshman Brendy Guerra
Not everyone one feels the same about the topic most students think it's fine. Teachers have a different opinion here are some of their comments.
