Bears’ Tennis Wins Close Match Against Grandview
March 13, 2016
The William Chrisman boys tennis team followed up a tough loss on Monday with a close 5-4 win against Grandview on Tuesday.
The Bears fell 9-0 to Lee’s Summit the day before but quickly regrouped to defeat the Bulldogs.
“It was much closer in overall outcome than I would have wanted, but we were victorious,” coach Jason Grubb said.
Grandview put up a great fight with #1, #2, and #5 singles as well as #1 doubles being Grandview narrow wins. However, Chrisman edged the team dual with steady singles by Michael Marquess, Brett Wilson, and Jose Mendoza.
In doubles play, the team of Austin Twenter and Brett Wilson won at #2 and usual JV players Jose Mendoza and Alex Fry won at #3.
After the match, Coach Grubb was pleased with the "team" mentality of picking up the slack for #1 player Faletau in a day in which he played a great opponent and just fell short.
