Chrisman Journalism and Broadcasting Students Attend J-Day at MU
Students from the William Chrisman journalism and broadcast programs attended the 47th Missouri Interscholastic Press Association’s Journalism Day at the University of Missouri-Columbia on Wednesday, April 6.
The day was a day of learning and exploring the field, but also won full of awards and honors.
Thirty-two students made the trip. They were selected because of their hard work in class this year and because their work was submitted for awards.
Students attended several seminars on campus, learned more about journalism and campus life, and also got to know the MU campus.
The event, which featured more than 1,000 high school journalism students, closed with the annual MIPA State awards, which honored the work of student journalists in Missouri.
Many Bears earned awards for their work. The top honor, given to a select few in some categories (and not awarded in some categories) was All-Missouri, which was followed by Superior, Excellent, and Honorable Mention.
The award submitted was completed from the beginning of the school year until mid-February.
Chrisman students earned two All-Missouri Awards.

Several other broadcasting, newspaper, yearbook, and photography students fared very well on critiques but fell just short of bring home a state award. The scoring and awards ranking scales were changed this year in order to make each level of honors more difficult to reach.
The Newspaper, yearbook, and photojournalism adviser is Jason Stacy and Scott Hopke oversees the broadcasting program. Stacy was also announced as one of the three nominees, nominated by their journalism staffers, for Journalism Teacher of the Year in Missouri. A teacher from Staley was awarded the top honor.
This is the fifth-straight year Chrisman has attended MIPA’s Journalism Day but just one of many overall trips to the event.
The school has a great history in the 40-plus total years of the event as the school has won multiple awards for Student Journalist and Journalism Teacher of the Year during the awards’ existence.
