ISD Purchases the MyArts Studio
Story By: Mikayla Blanchard
There is an old auto dealer location on Main Street, just off of the Independence Square, called MyArts.
However, it is more recently known as the new space purchased by the Independence School District (ISD).
ISD is wanting to use the new space for school classes like photography, higher level art students, and even broadcasting and journalism.
Earlier in the year the Jackson County Legislature made a unanimous decision to sell the Building to ISD for one dollar.
Jackson County purchased the building from Independence for $350,000 in 2010.
The building’s original purpose was to help young art students display their art, but the grants to buy the building ran out in 2016, according to County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
The County has already spent 1.2 million dollars on renovating the building. They even rebuilt and replaced the roof of the MyArts building.
The teachers that teach Arts and Education academy classes are very excited for the MyArts Studio. Karen Campbell, a long time teacher at William Chrisman said “It’s great and we should have it by next year. It looks like a great opportunity for the school”
The school district is hoping the studio will give students a bigger and better space to learn and work on their passion or future career.
For now the Studio still requires some cleaning up and renovations. So until then, the MyArts studio will not be in use, but ISD is hoping and planning on putting it to good use by 2017-2018.
