ACE Club Offers Students Chance to Give Back
Story By: Kayli Perez
At William Chrisman there are a lot extracurricular activities that students can do to help out the community, one of them being ACE club. In Ace students go to the teachers Mrs.Moore and Mr.Summerville to find things they can do around independence for volunteer hours. At the end of the year students hours all get totalled up and recognized at a ceremony. Some kids hours reach very high numbers for all of the years they have volunteered and they can get scholarships, and an ace letter for it.
Sophomore Jocelyn Rodriguez said
“ACE is kinda of like a big family that you go and volunteer to help people who are struggling with stuff. My suggestion to ones just joining is be very involved with this it will help you with college and volunteering is a must do.”
The students all participating in the club really like it and find the teachers very funny and supportive. They also know that volunteering is very important for colleges and looks very nice on the applications. Not only is the club fun, and good for colleges, it is also a good experience for all to learn from.
Incorporating this thought the teacher sponsor Phyllis Moore said
“This program helps students learn about job experience, public learning, talking with all ages of people, and how to handle certain situations.”
With this the students are not only getting good looks for colleges, but will get good benefits for actual job experiences. Volunteering requires a lot of skills especially with public speaking and handling problems. The club benefits all that is in it from the people to the students and even the teachers.
Sponsor Rudy Summerville says,
“ACE is achieving Chrisman excellence, it helps deal with social skills, awareness, involvement, and fun. Ace should be a required club for students because of all of the benefits it gives.”
The options of what you can do in Ace are endless. Sometimes you can do activities outside of school and get hours (depending if you check in with the teachers), and the school provides a list of things in the ace office that you can come and sign up for. Senior Nicholas Arnold has been in ace for a while and listed off some of the things that he has done.
“Mayor's Christmas concert, Martin Luther meeting, Harvesters, a Jazz event, and other small things offered by the club”
With all of the benefits and fun activities offered by the club it seems like a good idea to join, with recommendations by all of the students and teachers. To sign up just stop by the ace office for information room 104, this is not just a club it is a family and the quicker you join the more hours you will receive. Be apart of something great, giving yourself, and your school a good name.
