Chrisman Senior Sets Sights on Harvard
By Autumn Garrett
Posted January 21, 2021 Every year, seniors leave the school with hope for brighter futures and the awaiting opportunities ahead of them. Among these seniors, very few can say that they have been accepted into one of the Ivy League universities.
But Bank Daniel is one of them. The William Chrisman senior has been accepted to Harvard University. Daniel continues to impress his peers and teachers as he pushes ahead in his last year of high school, proving that he stands apart from the crowd. “I think a lot of this comes from his participation in debate. He’s a really eloquent speaker. He’s a level above even adult interviewers a lot of the time. He’s personable and confident in his intelligence. [It] makes him a really good candidate for almost everything,” said social studies teacher and Academy Ambassador coordinator, Andrew Smithson. Through his years at Chrisman, Daniel had to stay dedicated in order to accomplish all he wanted to do. That work led up to the moment he had been waiting for...an acceptance letter from Harvard University. |

“I do think it’s the best fit for me, and I think it’s the best choice for me, just because of how I’ve come to know the campus after vicariously experiencing it through my brother. I kind of fell in love with it, and I think, also, learning about this institution...as you know, this disciplinary area full of minds who have the same goal of making the world a better place,” said Daniel.
Daniel spoke with passion as he described how being accepted to Harvard University went from being a dream to reality. Influenced by his older brother, inspired by outside advisers, and pushed by individuals, Daniel did all he could to make sure he took the necessary steps to reach his goal.
And one night in early January, Daniel’s dream became his future.
“Thursday night, I was attempting to log in. I couldn’t put my password in correctly, so I’m feeling like ‘Okay, maybe this is a sign’. But I was able to log in, and finally I clicked on the status update. I think I gasped at first, but after just looking at it and realizing, or trying to realize, that this is my reality...[I was] very excited. Overjoyed.”.

Daniel couldn’t believe his eyes as all that he reached for became realized in the that moment. He never strayed from the path that he created for himself, always striving to what he knew he could accomplish.
“He’s also one of the most dedicated kids I’ve ever met. He does everything that he is involved [in] with fidelity and puts all of the time needed to do well in it even if it monopolizes his whole day,” said science teacher and STUCO co-sponsor, Sydney Gearhart. As Daniel creates a path for himself to his future, he also creates footsteps to follow in as more students look up to him and continue to take small steps onto the path that Daniel has shown is possible. “Finding dedication in something that you enjoy and that you’re passionate about is necessary, not only for applying but also once you get there. Having some sort of dedication is necessary, staying true to your values, working hard and being consistent and accountable with yourself. I think that those values are more important than just having high test scores or doing some amazing academic achievement. [Someone who has] these personable qualities really stand out,” said Daniel. |
