Parking Lot Safety is an Issue During Busy Times of the Day
Story By: Dom Ortiz
Keeping kids safe here at William Chrisman, along with learning, is a top priority.
Safety in the halls, but also safety in the parking lot is very important as well.
William Chrisman’s Resource Officer, Officer Gary Baker, and some students have a few tips for students leaving the parking lot, to reduce the risk of an accident.
“Just slow down, pay attention, and be patient,” said Officer Baker
“Before pulling out of a parking spot look both ways to ensure you are clear to go,” said Senior Alex Tyler.
“Just look before you leave, a double check can save you some trouble” Said Junior Trey Dumas
The accident rates here at William Chrisman have not increased much since Officer Baker has been here at William Chrisman, but there have been a handful of accidents.,
“Parking lot safety is an issue, I have seen a few accidents, been a victim of one as well,” said Tyler.
“I feel unsafe in the parking lot because people do not pay attention so I could get hit.” Said Senior Alexis Cole
“I do not think it is unsafe because I believe that people could go ahead and drive well enough to get out okay.” Said Senior Skylar McHardie
“Only two accidents have happened that I am aware of this year, roughly only six to seven that have been reported since me coming here in 2014” Said Officer Baker
Accidents do happen, but it is not necessarily always the drivers fault, sometimes it is the carelessness of the kids walking in the roads.
Kids do tend to not watch where they are walking just focus on their friends, phones, and trying to get to their car.
So adhere to these tips, so you can save some trouble and some payments for someone else’s car.
