Bears Get Big Win in Opener
The Bears opened their season on Friday with a big 35-6 win against Suburban Middle Seven Conference foe Oak Park at Independence All-School Stadium.
The Bears (1-0, 1-0 Conference) won their opener for the first time since 2009 and hope the strong start will spark them to a great season and one in which the team hopes will include a Conference title and a long playoff run. “We played well,” quarterback James Bailey said. “We played as a team.” Bailey led the way for the Bears with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The offense made an impact early, as did the defense, and the Bears jumped to a 29-0 halftime lead. “Both sides of the ball came out and executed,” junior Jordon Woods said. “Everyone did their part and we got the W.” Woods added a touchdown reception and junior Kyron Mason added 38-yard and 8-yard touchdown runs. “We played well on both sides of the ball and we played as a team,” junior Emori Thomas said. We kept the momentum on our side and it was a great moment to learn from. The Bears are now focused on a good season as well as their next game against Ruskin. |
