Bears Have a Big Day at Grain Valley Invitational
The William Chrisman boys and girls cross country teams appear to be peaking at the right time. The Bears had their best runs of the season in the final meet before Championship season begins. The Bears run in Conference on Thursday and then at Districts on October 22.
Both varsity teams took fourth, with the boys finishing fourth out of 15 complete teams the girls out of nine. The top 15 individuals in each varsity race earned medals. The top 10 in JV races medaled.
Senior Caleb Michell ran a season best 17:47 on the way to a fifth place finish in the varsity boys race. Senior Chris Bunce was 14th and junior Trey Dumas was 15th as he also ran a season best time. Freshman Tanner Jolley broke 19 minutes for the first time in his career as he finished 28th.
For the varsity girls, sophomore Lilly Conner-Urnise ran a season best time of 22:09 to finish 10th. Freshman Kayli Perez broke her PR again as she was 18th and sophomore Elizabeth Eppert ran a season best time to finish 19th. Freshman Gabi Chavez broke her PR by more than a minute in her first varsity race.
In JV boys, junior Braxton Ward ran the most complete race of his high school career as he finished 10th. Freshman Evelyn Boughan led more than half of the JV race before finishing third with a new PR.
The Bears will run at the Suburban White Conference meet on Thursday at Fort Osage.
