Swimmers have milliseconds to win, in individual and collective competition, it’s a test of physical and mental ability.
“Swimming is a great sport for those who enjoy individual sports and a splash of competition,” said senior Brooklyn Burkey.
This season, the girls on the team made new accomplishments. The girls swim and dive team finished 11th at the Belton Invitational the weekend of January 21. The swim and dive team was excited after setting a record of 11-13 this season, even more so in their individual and team events.
At Conference, the relay team- Olivia Parrish, Kiersten Playter, Brooklyn Burkey and Kira Pangelinan finished third in both the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay. Kiersten Playter finished second in the 50 yard freestyle and had a State Consideration time of 27.01 seconds.
There are very few girls on the swim and dive team, with seven girls in total, the team is going to suffer through a huge loss at the start of the next season.
The Girls Swim team is losing quite a few of their teammates. This is the last swim season for seniors Kira Pangelinan, Brooklyn Burkey, Olivia Parrish, Makayla Munger, and Kiersten Playter.
One of the seniors, Kiersten Playter, has been with the swim team since freshman year, and has been encouraging her peers to come out and enjoy the swim team.
“Swimming is a difficult sport, and the harder you try, the better results that are going to come,” said Playter, “Also, don’t forget to have fun! You can make some really fun memories from swimming, and while it’s a sport that requires determination, also remember to have fun while doing it!”
