Bears to Play For Championship
March 24, 2016
The Bears opened up to a hot start in the Raytown Schools tournament with a 9-4 victory against Harrisonville this past Tuesday afternoon.
Eli Henderson got the nod on the mound for the Bears, after the Wildcats started off with 4 runs (1 unearned) in the first inning, Chrisman was able to settle down and shut the Wildcats down for the rest of the game.
“Well, I think we responded well. We had some nerves being our first game of the season, once we got those out of system we took it to them and didn’t look back,” Senior Eli Henderson said.
Chrisman got the bats rolling early and didn’t stop as they were able to get a run across the board in each inning besides the 3rd.
Going into Wednesday the Bears had a double-header vs O’Hara and host Raytown South.
In the first game against O’Hara, the Bears’ hot bats jumpstarted them to a quick 7-2 lead by the second inning.
“We had some errors early but they relaxed, fixed it, and we played great,” Junior Parker LaRoche said.
Nick Ross led the Bears at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, as Parker LaRoche got the win on the mound going five innings allowing one run on eight hits.
“The pitching has been great and everyone on the team has contributed in very positive ways,” Junior Nick Ross said.
In the second game, Will Fisher had an outstanding performance on the mound, allowing only one run, with stellar defense backing him up.
Fisher and the Bears also worked out of two innings with Ray South runners on second and third with two outs, threatening the Bears’ lead.
As rain caused for the game to be called in the top of the seventh inning, it was decided that the Bears would still be awarded the victory 4-1, and a spot in the championship game.
“We have played together and when a team sticks together great things can happen,” LaRoche also added.
The Bears will take on the winner from the other side of the bracket this Friday at Raytown South at 1pm.
