Top Juniors Honored With McCoy Awards

Each fall, the Junior class looks forward to the time-honored tradition of the Annual McCoy Awards. The District honors were held November 16 in the William Chrisman auditorium.
Students from all three Independence district high schools (Truman, Van Horn, and Chrisman) were honored and given the prestigious medal for being a part of the top 50 of their school’s junior class. The 150 young academic achievers made the ISD proud with their academic excellence and accomplishments.
The students take pride in receiving the medal.
“I feel a sense of accomplishment,” junior Mara Bradford said. “A lot of people have been honored with this [award] and it feels good to be apart of it.”
For many, this helped prove that their hard work, great efforts and late nights studying had paid off.
“Oh yeah, this is an amazing opportunity and it will be great for college applications and scholarships,Alexis Schulz said.
This year’s Chrisman McCoy Medalists were: Rudy Acosta, Carla Acosta-Flores, Alison Baker, Jacob Bennett, Adrian Bernal, Mallory Bittner, Nicolette Bowman, Mara Bradford, Leanna Branstetter, Roberta Burns, Hannah Clifford, Emily Copeland, Sierra Darrington, Ethan Douglas, Blake Douglas, McKenna Downey, Morgan Eckstein, Josiah Ferrell, Richard Griffin, Griffin Harness-Clark,Oliver Henderson, Ashley Johnston, Connor Jones, Ashly Jordan, Donaivin Justus, Hannah Kimbrough, Faith Kolb, Madison Lara, Savanah Malam, Eli Martin, Robert Meadows, Jose Mendoza, Valarie Morris, Alexzandrea Neal, Joshua Noble, Lucy Parrish, Mackenzie Rohrbach, Rayna Rucker, Alexis Schulz, Randi Slater, Adrianna Solary, Bryan Sontay, Seiseira Tali, Christopher Toms, Kameron Twyman, Braxton Ward, William Weston, Aja Williams, Hannah Wilson, Brett Wilson, and George Zavala.
