Bears Get Focused in Big Win
On a windy, beautiful day such as Monday it is tough for high school boys to stay focused. That was not the case for the William Chrisman team en route to 9-0 varsity and 7-2 JV wins at Belton.
"We have a crazy couple of weeks of tennis with matches, all day tournaments, and make up tennis matches so I was hoping my guys would focus on playing their best and save some energy for future competitions as well,” coach Jason Grubb said.
The Bears not only got the win, but they also saved energy for later in the year.
“One of the things I like to do after a few matches into the season is find a place to thrust younger players into a challenge/give Taniela Faletau (#1 singles player) a partial day off,” Grubb said. “He is so heavily involved in tennis and other activities that I try to give him a spot rest in either singles or doubles to keep him fresh.”
Therefore, the improving underclassmen at Chrisman led the way to a team victory.
Singles winners included Brett Wilson, Shaun Anderson, Roman Campa, Dakoda James, Jose Mendoza, and Tyler Carter.
In doubles, the Faletau/Campa team, Wilson/James team, and Anderson/Mendoza teams were successful.
The next few matches have district and conference implications so it will be a testing period for the Bears.
