Bears Showcase Talent at Independence City Champs Track Meet
It was another big day for the William Chrisman track team and this time it was to prove is the best in Independence.
The Bears shined as the boys took first and the girls were second as a team. It was also a big day individually with 11 PRs, one school record, and 38 medalists, including 15 event Champions. The top three in each event medaled.
Senior Daniel Carson (shot put, discus) and junior Aaron Nyaway (1600m, 3200m) led the way as double event winners. Nyaway was also third in the 800m and part of the 4x400m relay (Nyaway, Garrett Downey, Tanner Jolley, Richard Slaughter) that also took third.
Freshman Jacque David earned two place finishes for the girls, winning the discus and anchoring the 4x100m relay of David, Malia Atagi, Aniyeja Weathers, and Jamie Atkison. David also finished second in the shot put, behind event winner Jenny David, her sophomore sister.
Junior Camryn Holloman medaled in all four of her events, taking first in the triple jump, second in the long jump and third in both the 100m and 200m.
Senior Jordon Woods broke his own school record in the triple jump to take first and was followed by teammate Isaiah Jackson in second. Jackson was also an event winner as he won the high jump with a new PR.
Junior Tony Hilton took first in the 300m hurdles, followed by sophomore Joseph Greyes in second and senior Dan White in fourth. White led for 200m before falling over a hurdle. He got up, however, and out kicked competition for the Top 5 finish. White also took first in his first ever 110m hurdles while running out of the slower heat.
Junior Tre Sisco also had a big day. He won the 100m with a PR, took second in the 200m and was part of two second-place relays with the 4x100m (Sisco, Woods, Dane Johnson, Kelvyn Mason) and the 4x200m (Sisco, Mason, Hilton, Greyeyes). Mason also PR’d in the 200m for a strong third-place finish.
Sophomore Reana Lagrone led a sweep of the pole vault as she took first, followed by Morgan Bauman in second and Paris Anderson in third. Lagrone was also part of the second place 4x200m relay (Lagrone, Weathers, Ebony Hurst, Meraid Jorgensen).
Finally, the 4x800m girls relay of Kayli Perez, Lilly Conner-Urnise, Hunter Taylor, and Evelyn Boughan also brought home a title Perez also took third in the 1600m and Conner Urnise was third in the 3200m and fourth in the 800m. Boughan also took fourth in both the 800m and 1600m, earning team points, and was also on the third place 4x400m relay (Boughan, Jorgensen, Weathers, Jolee Spinks).
Also finishing second was the boys 4x800m relay of Trey Dumas, Marcus Wigfall, Tanner Jolley, and Braiden Sturtevant).
Other third place finishers were: Jenny David (Discus), Jorgensen (400m). Wyatt Leutzinger (Pole Vault), Joey Ogle (High Jump), and Spinks (High Jump).
The Bears host the first ever Chrisman JV Invitational on Wednesday and then varsity heads to the Gardner Edgerton Invitational next Friday.
