Story By:Autumn Garrett Backpack. Check. Notebooks. Check. Pencils. Double check. Freshman. Che-, wait, what? The transition between schools always evokes emotions from the Freshman, undergoing all the changes that come along with leaving their old school behind for a new one. The differences between middle and high school a big leap into the bigger pond. Freshman in high school notice differences from their past schools and can have different feelings coming into the new year. Differences that can be scary or more of a relief. “It’s more intense,” said Marilyn Sales. Lilian McDhee said.“You have to rely on yourself.” The seriousness of high school can be a bit more of a shock even when Freshman are expecting it. The differences in teachers between middle and high school can be a relief as well to some with the environment the teachers give. “Teachers are a lot more laid back,” Riley Shoop-Altom sais. “The teachers are more open about what they say.” ????Morrigna goes on to say, “Students talk to them like friends or parents.” Teachers and upperclassmen have been a worry for some of the freshman. The upperclassmen being a bit of a scare to them because of the expectations they had on how upperclassmen behave and treat freshman, which can often be an unrealistic “Hollywood” betrayal. But coming to high school has proven that not all stories are true and that the upperclassmen are nicer than they thought initially. The worry of being judged being pushed to the far back of their mind. Being the new year in a bigger school, Freshman receive advice from others about their first year. Whether the advice is about how strict the teachers are or the workload that they get, the advice is carried with them when they come in. Advice can even be proven as something for Freshman to look forward to or enjoy sports or classes. Through all the stress, work, or crowds; high school is something to look forward to. The challenges just something to overcome, walking through the front doors being the first mountain in their journey to climb. |
