2021 Seniors Go To Prom
By Autumn Garrett May 14, 2021
As the school year comes to an end, seniors of William Chrisman find themselves finally gaining some sense of normality. When the date for prom was officially announced over the intercoms, seniors were excited to spend those last moments with their peers for what seems like the last time fully together.
“It felt nice to have everybody there, the whole senior class coming back together. It all really felt like a goodbye in a way,” said Haylie Mitchell. “It was a chance to see everybody at the dance, even those who graduated early one last time. There isn’t going to be another chance for everyone to come together again after this,” said Shelby White. |
“Not only was the year close to finish but it felt great knowing that there was something else to the year. That after everything that happened, there was still a light at the end of the tunnel and something to look forward to,” said Chrystian Waterman.
Prom gave seniors a chance to feel a sense of closure for the end of not only their senior year but also their entire high school experience. It was a time to make final memories with each other before they walked across the stage. A time to have fun before they finish their careers at William Chrisman.

“Just seeing everyone lining up for ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ was great, especially Bank [Daniel] at the front of the group,” joked White.
“Because [seniors] can look back on that in the future. I was glad that we were able to have a prom. That it wasn’t just backed away from,” said Jovian Negrete. Prom came as a surprise to everyone, students and staff alike doubting that this event would happen in this year's madness. Prom is such an important milestone for seniors however, that everyone was just excited for the chance, short notice or not. Chrisman’s Student Council made sure to make this dance something memorable for all of the seniors. |
“The day of the dance, we found out that the dance was inside and not outside like planned. Since we’ve usually never had it in the gym, we had to make and decorate everything ourselves and it ended up coming out really well,” said White.
“I was not expecting what they did. [The dance] looked a lot better than what I thought it would. It was really amazing,” said Negrete.

“There was a lot more people than I thought there would be, the decorations were a lot better than what I thought they were going to do, and I was grateful for the dance. It was pretty much a saving grace for me and my girlfriend, especially after this year,” said Waterman.
“I was just glad to spend the time with my friends, being able to come together and have fun,” said Karly Jones. For many seniors, this was like the final ending to everything they had done for the past four years together, one last event together as a class. Prom was like the last step before continuing on to what the future holds. Something that was meant to be the last chance to be together before it is time to say goodbye. |
