WCHS Girls' Golf Looks Back on Successful Season
Story By: Dominik Ortiz
The William Chrisman girls’ golf team had one of its best seasons in nearly a decade and it include a strong finish at the Conference meet.
“We were three strokes away from second place, three of our girls medaled, and it was a great experience for them,” said coach John Beaman about the team’s strong showing at the Conference.
“Lexy Abshier and Kelstin Wilson shot better than they had last year,” he said.
A lot of the golfers had done their very best and even broke some personal records.
“This was everyone’s season best, but Kelstin Wilson and Ally Vaughn, shot their career bests at conference,” said Beaman
“The past tournaments were kind of rushed, but this one was very laid back, so we could take our time and get a good shot, instead of rushing and making a [poor] shot just to hurry up,” said Wilson.
Some of the players had lost hope about doing good in the conference but Beaman had no doubt in them.
“They didn’t believe me that we could shoot at least a second or third place in conference,” he said.
Placing third in this All Conference is a big deal as over the past eight years no Bears’ team has really come close, let alone had any of the girls medal.
“It was a fun tournament, exciting because we were just a few points from second place,” Abshier said. “It is the best we have done as a school in a while.”
