Trio of Bears Commit to Future at Spring Signing Ceremony

April 27 was a big day for three William Chrisman students as they signed to their future colleges to continue their athletic and music careers.
Cody Davis signed to cheer at Drury University in Springfield.
“I’m really really excited,” said Davis, “I’m sad to be leaving Chrisman, however excited to continue cheering at a new school.”
Davis has been on the varsity cheer team for the past three years and has played a key role as captain this past season. He helped lead this year’s cheer team to a Show-Me Regional championship.
Davis’s resume doesn’t just include a regional championship, he was also a part of the state winning squad in 2015.
“I just want to thank all my friends and family and especially my coaches for helping me get to continue cheering for another five years as well as studying what I want to do in the future,” said Davis.
The second signee was Sarah Erickson, who signed to play for Washburn University’s band.
“I’m excited to continue playing,” says Erickson, “Band is my passion and the fact that I get to continue to do it in college makes me happy.”
Erickson has received a Superior (I) rating at the state level two years in a row for her tuba solos. She has practiced hard and had to work to get to have the abilities she has now.
“I would say a huge reason of me getting to where I am is my grandma. She forces me to practice everyday, even on days that I didn’t want to, she made me and helped me get to where I am,” Erickson said.
She also helped lead Chrisman’s band to a Superior I rating in large ensemble as well last year.
The third student who signed was Kishon Ho Chee, who signed with Graceland University to play volleyball.
“I’m very grateful for my opportunity to play in college.” said Ho Chee “I’ve always loved the sport, and having played club for a little bit, I’m excited to have earned a scholarship to play at the collegiate level.”
Ho Chee has played club volleyball this past year and has managed for Chrisman’s women’s team for the past four years.
Graceland graduates their starting setter and outside hitter this year, and Ho Chee hopes to fill those roles next year.
“I would say I’m both excited and nervous for the next few years, mainly because I don’t know what position I would be playing. I’ve played setter all my life and hit on the right side but as any other team, I have to earn my setting spot or opposite spot,” he said.
Ho Chee recognizes that he couldn’t have earned his scholarship on his own.
“I see it more as a team scholarship, in that I represent what my family has raised me to be, and what my coaches have taught me throughout the years, as well as all my teammates in club and our women’s team here at school, they’ve influenced me to be where I am today so, I don’t think of it so much as I earned it, it’s more like we earned it,” Ho Chee said.
