Seniors See the End of High School Nearing
Story By: Autumn Garrett
The year is yours. Put on your gowns, throw your caps in the air. Hang on tight for the final ride. You’re almost there.
Every year, William Chrisman says goodbye to another group of students, taking steps into their future that awaits them in the big world. The last year of high school can be a heap of emotions for the seniors as they speed through the last bit of high school.
“It’s nerve racking...The future is right there,” Christa Johnson said.
“It’s a good relief. It’s the end,” Adriana Campbell said.
Leaving the school can be difficult for some with their graduation marking the beginning of their adult life, but the end of their high school days. Students heading down different paths, potentially leaving behind fellow students that they grew up with.
Challenges lay ahead of them as they leave to go on to college and the years that follow high school.
“Finding out what my career path will actually be…” Brandy Scott says.
Campbell said, “Paying for college...also the sudden change in environment.”
Worries about finishing their final year plague their mind along with their excitement. The rush to finish their work and get everything done. The pressure to finish the hard last year with their sanity still intact. The weight of getting senioritis pushing down on their shoulders.
Leaving Chrisman and high school in general means leaving behind the things the seniors will miss most about their journey through school.
“Only place you’ll be with this set of people for the last time,” says Sara Nease.
Campbell said, “The support system and the connection that you have with your teachers that you don’t have in college.,” Campbell says.
Leaving behind Chrisman also means leaving the school in the hands of the underclassmen. The seniors leaving behind advice for the students behind them.
“Take your Junior and Senior year seriously, they really are important,” Scott said.
Johnson said, “Breathe, It’s going to be ok."
