Blue and Gold Singers Selected For 2016-2017
This school year is coming to an end, but with this ending comes new beginnings, especially in the vocal music department. Auditions were held for Blue and Gold, the school’s Chamber Choir, and results were posted.
“Whenever I auditioned I was really nervous. I just wanted to do my best because this is something that I have really wanted,” said freshman David Toese
While freshman Valarey Hodges, who was in the Freshmen Women’s Ensemble, said that she tried to think of the audition as routine vocal testing done in class. This helped to ease her nerves.
There will be around 30 members for the 2016-17 school year. With seven seniors graduating this year there will be many newcomers, as well as returners.
“There will be a lot of new kids next year, so it will be interesting to see how well we all blend.” said junior Kaitlyn Rodriguez
Due to MSHSAA rules, those in Blue and Gold will also be enrolled in Concert Chorale, which just gives Blue and Gold singers more opportunities to practice .
“I look forward to being in two choir classes next year and getting to improve my technique. It will be nice to have a class where everyone is working towards the same goal, with the same mindset,” Makenzy Magel
Blue and Gold singers are ambassadors for the music department and for the school. Throughout the year they sing at many events not put on by the school, so members must be well rounded individuals.
“This is a huge achievement and an honor,” said freshman, Ikaika Kahananui.
With a large number of sophomores coming into Blue and Gold, adjustments will be made and a new sound will be created.
However Dr. Ron Patch, director of all choirs here at Chrisman, still has very high expectations for next year. He expects to make “outstanding progress” and for the ensemble to “be really, really good.”
