My Big Fat Greek Wedding II Falls Short
April 14, 2016
Story By: Gabriel Spaulding
Seventeen years after her own wedding, Toula (Nia Vardalos) and her husband, Ian (John Corbett), are struggling to get Toula’s parents remarried after finding out their marriage license was not validated, while trying to get the respect she deserves from her daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris).
This movie is full of exactly what the first movie had - cheesy humor and a feel good vibe. This movie was a very good family movie (despite a few raunchy scenes) and attempted to teach important lessons about family and love. It was a very feel-good type of movie, and anyone who enjoyed the first movie would most definitely enjoy this one.
However, while it was likely intended to be cheesy, the humor in this film was repetitive and dry, although a couple of jokes were funny (at least the first time they were told). Certain characters were very poorly-made, flat, plot device characters, such as the old ladies that lived next to the family. Not to mention the extremely formulaic high school plotline following the teenage daughter, Paris. These negatives simply outweigh the positives.
Looking over this film, it wasn’t necessarily awful (depending on who you might ask). It was a very good movie for someone who enjoys a cheesy romantic comedy every once in awhile.
However, in the eyes of this writer, the movie deserved a 2/5 stars.
