After a year of work and practice, Life Skills students get the opportunity to show off what they learned with the annual Job Olympics.
“My favorite part is watching the kids compete. Seeing all the work they put in in the classroom and getting to show off all their skill,” said teacher Kerri Beard
Students from Chrisman participated in the event, where they got to compete in many different professions, against other students from over 30 schools.
Some of the many different options were job interviews, car detailing, restaurant hosting, paper shredding, food prep, and many more.
Isaac Crane was one of the participants and he chose to compete in car detailing. This consisted of cleaning up the cars and washing the windows. This is Isaac’s second year competing and said if he wasn’t graduating, he would want to participate again.
Kody Trenner who also took part in the activities decided to go with taking down and flattening boxes. This is also Kody’s second year and plans to do it again.
The purpose behind the Job Olympics is to better prepare the life skills students for jobs after graduation.
Some of the student from the student council class went alongside and cheered the students on, while getting a new perspective on how hard the life skills kids work.
“It was a fun experience and makes you realize not everyone has it easy. It definitely is inspiring to see the positive outlooks all these kids have.” said Elsa Molin.
