College Adviser Offers Advice, Tools Not Available in Past

“I have always had a passion to help others when I am able and I think being a college adviser allows me to be the resource that many students need and I really am glad that I have the opportunity to do that here at William Chrisman.” said College Advisor Quana Atkins.
Atkins had a college advisor in high school that played a large role in helping her to decide what she did and where she went after graduation. She then wanted to be able to help students, as her adviser had helped her.
Throughout her short time at Chrisman Atkins has already managed to have a substantial impact on many students, organizing numerous events and college visits, while also helping students decide what they will do after high school.
Atkins said, “As a college adviser my goal is to increase the percentages of graduates from MCAC partner schools who apply for, are accepted by, and enroll in a "best fit" post secondary institution.“
So far Atkins has had a massive approval rating from current juniors and seniors. “I love Ms. Atkins, She’s helped me so much this year and made my college decision so much easier.” said Senior Jay Lowery.
“The stuff Ms. Atkins has done for us this year is truly amazing, she’s done so much to help all of the seniors out and has been a great resource to have throughout my senior year.” said Senior Tyler Edwards
As next school year approaches Atkins looks to continue to host events at Chrisman for incoming seniors, while also creating new events to make the college decision process easier.
Atkins now has her first year as a college adviser under her belt and now going into her second year, has an idea of what works and things that she can do differently or introduce.
Next year, she plans holding another Decision Day, which is an event for seniors who have at least one acceptance into college, completed their FAFSA, and/or enlisted into the military. She will also be bringing back events like Apply Apply Missouri Week and FAFSA workshops.
“ Next school year I am looking forward to working more with the now juniors to being prepared for their next step after high school graduation,” said Atkins.
