Chrisman Track and Field Finds Success at City Champs Meet
The track season is beginning to hit Championship season and the Bears made the most of their performance in the Independence City Championships at Fort Osage on Wednesday as the boys won the team titles for the fourth year in a row and the girls finished third as a team.
Both the boys and girls teams were led by strong individual performances. The Bears produced 37 medalists and 10 event championships. The top three in each event received medals and the top five earned points towards team scoring.
Nick Puleo, Jacque David, and Camryn Holloman led the way as each won two indivdual event City Champs titles. Puleo and David won the shot put and discus for the boys and girls, respectively, and Holloman won the long and triple jumps. David took home the shot put thanks to a new PR and also a meet record throw of 44’4”.
Reana Lagrone won the pole vault, Tony Hilton won the 300m Hurdles, and Wyatt Leutzinger brought home the high jump title in his first ever high jump competition. The 4x100m relay of Kelvyn Mason, Cameron Beardsley, Trevaughn Sisco, and Jose Ramirez also took first.
The Bears also had 13 second-place medalists. Holloman added second place finishes in the 200m and 400m and Hilton added second place medals in both the long and triple jumps. Other second place medalists included: David Toese (shot put), Mason Walters (javelin), Jenny David (shot put) Jolee Spinks (long jump), Morgan Bauman (pole vault), and Beardsley (200m).
Three relays took second place as well: 4x400m - Garrett Downey, Hilton, Joseph Greyeyes, Marcus Wigfall, 4x100m - Pernya Barrett, Raimya McLaughlin, Aniyeja Weathers, Eala Everett, 4x200m - Adreal Bell, Lagrone, Comfort Dweh, Eala Everett.
Fourteen individuals/relays took third place: Jenny David (Discus), Leutzinger (Pole Vault, 400m), Ramirez (Long Jump), Greyeyes (110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles), Amanda Szopinski (300m Hurdles), Kimori Pointer (800m), Bell (400m), and Beardsley (100m). The varsity is back in action next Friday at the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational. The JV will compete Wednesday as Chrisman hosts the Chrisman JV Invitational.
