Bears Bring Home Big Finishes at State Track and Field Meet
It was a memorable MSHSAA Track and Field meet in Jefferson City for the Chrisman Bears on May 27-28.
The Bears might have only brought four participants, but the athletes made the most of their five events. It all started with junior James Bailey, who returned after a top five showing at State last year. Bailey not only matched last year's performance, but he bettered it with a 182'8" throw in the discus and a State Title. Bailey is Chrisman's school record holder at 185 feet. Day one ended early due to lightning, but not before sophomore Jordon Woods made the finals of the Triple Jump. Heading into the finals in third place, Woods' second jump (46,5") came up just an inch short of the school record, but was enough to earn him second in Class 5 in the event. Bailey and sophomore Daniel Carson also fared well in the Shot Put. Bailey posted a pr by almost two feet as he finished third and Carson had one of his most complete meets as he took sixth. The top eight in each event made the podium and earned All-State honors. Just three meets earlier, senior Ronnie Cravens had never run an open 800m. Despite that, he made Sectionals and then State. He tired during a fast pace in Jefferson City and finished 16th. The Bears finished seventh in team scoring, despite just four competing athletes, with 27 team points, just 11 out of fifth.
