Bears Bring Home Three Trails Trophy
Story By: Cameron Watters, James Bailey
With a 14-point lead, the Bears were just one quarter from bringing home the Three Trails trophy, given to the winner of the Chrisman versus Truman basketball game each year.
Though it appeared victory was imminent, the pesky Patriots did not go away easily. The Patriots scored the next 15 points after Chrisman went up 16 points, but fell just short as the Bears won 47-46.
The Bears were led by seniors Derriq Moore and Connor Ruch, and sophomore Kelvyn Mason.
“It was a hard game, the Truman players played hard. But I knew we had to come out in the second half and play solid second half,” said Moore.
And, Moore did just that as he led the team in scoring with 13 points, most of them coming in the second half to help Chrisman pull away with a big lead.
Ruch and Mason both were key contributors both adding 12 points.
While putting up 8 points in the second quarter Ruch made a key play as he drove past a Truman defender for a momentous dunk.
“It feels good to be back out there.” said Ruch. “After missing last season, I’ve been dying to get back out there, so I’ve been working hard to make up for last year and finish high school the right way.”
As the Bears move forward they look to continue improve and stay on the winning side of things.
“It’s a great win but we shouldn't have almost let them come back at the end. We have to do a better job at finishing,” said coach Don Cameron.
The Bears (1-3) look for another win they head to rival Van Horn on Monday.
