The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trial Better Than Original
Story By: Gabriel Spaulding
From the creator of the original Maze Runner comes a suspenseful and drama-filled sequel that reveals the dark truth behind the organization that saved the maze runners’ lives.
In this sequel, Thomas and his friends are saved by a group of people who claim to want to liberate them from the WCKD (World Catastrophe Killzone Department), a mysterious organization with mysterious but malevolent intentions. The maze runners soon find out that they weren’t actually saved and are still actually in WCKD’s clutches and must escape before it is too late.
This movie was well directed and had a great plot. It helped to further the character development of previously established characters with pasts shrouded in mystery, such as Thomas and Teresa. New and interesting characters were also introduced throughout the movie, that helped expand upon the plot of the movie and at interesting twists.
However, every movie has cons. One giant one in particular was that the events were all too predictable, and there were little to no events that you couldn’t see coming from the obvious build up. There were also phenomena in the movie that are yet to be explained, such as the cause of “the Scorch”, a mysterious disease that somehow infected the entire world. This will probably be expanded upon in the sequel, however.
Overall, it wasn’t a very bad film. On the contrary, it was quite well made and had very little flaws, even if the few it had were very large. The Scorch Trials deserves an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
