Chrisman Woodworking Students Fare Well at District Competition
Chrisman had a strong showing at the 2017 District Woodworking Competition last Thursday,
April 27 which took place on the MCC campus in North Kansas City.
Twenty three students went to the competition representing their hard work, time, and talent with their finished projects.
Sophomore Josh Azzaria brought his colored wooden table made with maple and walnut wood, and won runner up.
Over half of the students who participated, ended up bringing home an award for their projects.
The runner ups at the competition were Autumn Farmer, Kaitlynn Crouch, Cirus Shoemaker, Dallas Brown, Caysen Woods, and Joshua Azzaria.
Senior Dallas Brown and Sophomore Caysen Woods not only one runner up for one project, but also for a second project.
Among the awards given there were four grand champion titles earned.
Sophomore Austin Belcher was one of the four students earning the highest award at the district competition.
“My project was an advanced cutting board. It’s advanced because I made it look like a checkerboard with a walnut trim and bottom.” said Belcher
Grand champions included Martin Hulzuter, Ethan Freiley, Joshua Arriaza, and Austin Belcher.
Students who won grand champion will compete at the state level next Monday and Tuesday, May 8th and 9th.
These students will travel to Osage beach, Missouri and stay at the Tantarra Resort.
For senior Martin Hulzuter, making it to state came as an “exciting surprise.”
