This past Friday, April 8th, William Chrisman’s band competed at their annual State Large ensemble competition at Lee’s Summit West.
For the first time in more than 15 years, Chrisman’s band earned an exceptional 1 rating.
“I was really proud of our performance, it was the best we’ve sounded yet. However we worked really hard all week trying to improve our sound by going back to the basics and working on our fundamentals; blend, balance, note accuracy, and just overall being as musical as we could be for our performance,” said band director JoeSisco
The band prepared and put in lots of work into their performance to make sure it could be as great as it could possibly be.
That doesn’t take into account the amount of time that the individual members take out to rehearse on their own.
Band members agree that their final performance became the best when they truly needed it to be.
“It was exciting to find out that we got a one!” said junior Ally Vaughn “I wasn’t really expecting it, to be honest, however looking back and reflecting on our performance, I felt as though we deserved it.”
It was a historical day for the Chrisman band program overall.
“I was really freaking happy, since starting high school band, I always wanted a one rating, and to know that this group was the first in over fifteen years to earn a one rating made me really proud of this group of band members,” said junior Sarah Erickson
William Chrisman’s band has always been one with student effort, now their effort has come to pay off as they’ve earned their deserving one rating.
