Bears Overcome Inclement Weather With Strong Meet as Both Athletes and Hosts
The William Chrisman track team made the most of a cold and rainy day as both participants and hosts of the inaugural William Chrisman JV Invitational.
And when the rain passed by evening the result was a successful meet. The Bears JV athletes finished the night with a third place boys’ team finish and fourth for the girls. Individual, that meant 21 PRs, three event champions, 15 medalists (top 3) and even more top eight finishes.
Leading the way for the boys was sophomore Isaiah Jackson, who took first in both the high jump and triple jump to go along with a third place finish in the long jump. Sophomore Richard Slaughter was second in the high jump and Joey Ogle was fouorth.
Freshman Jolee Spinks also excelled in the jumping events, winning the high jump, taking third in the triple jump, and adding a fourth place finish in the long jump.
Freshman Mason Walters had a five foot PR to take second in the pole vault and fellow thrower Alex Atagi took second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Jimmy Jeffries was fourth in the discus.
MiYahnna Woods continues to show great improvement as she took second in the 100m hurdles and was a part of the third place 4x200m relay team (Woods, Spinks, Felecia Moore, Ebony Hurst).
Tanner Jolley had a two PR day for the boys while taking third in three events. He excelled from the slower heats in his events, finishing third in the 1600m and 300m hurdles and was also on the 4x400m relay team (Jolley, Garrett Downey, Braiden Sturtevant, Antonio Cruz) that took third. This group had a day of PRs as both Downey and Cruz had double PR days and Sturtevant set a new PR in the 800m to take third.
Other medalists for the girls included sophomore Evelyn Boughan (second - 400m) and freshman Raigan Keltner (third - 3200m), who set a new PR by almost 40 seconds.
A complete list of top 8 finishes and PRs is below.
