With a 48-14 win over Truman, the William Chrisman football team took home the Wagon Wheel trophy, which was a game filled with firsts for the Bears. Not only did the Bears win the wagon wheel trophy for the first time in 3 years, but the Bears are 3-0 for the first time since starting 5-0 in 1975. “It was a solid win we came to play, We were ready, the kids were excited, the coaches were excited, and our fans, well, you could see our fans were excited,” said head coach Scorpio Horn. Many players had great games on both sides of the ball lead by a standout performance by quarterback James Bailey who rushed for 4 touchdowns, and connected with receiver Josh Horn for two touchdowns on Horn’s debut for the team. “This game wasn’t going to come down to a couple inches.” said Bailey “And it was a nice feel having a guy like Josh to throw too, knowing I don’t have to throw a perfect ball for him to go up and get it,” said Bailey. On the defensive side junior linebacker Emori Thomas, and sophomore safety Kelvyn Mason had a dominant night combining for 28 tackles and 3 turnovers. “I had a lot of opportunities to make plays this game, and took advantage of them,” said Mason “I’m proving myself this year, I want everyone to know who I am and I think I’ve got a pretty good start.” said Mason. As the Bears celebrate their solid victory over Truman they prepare for what looks to be a good match up with Grandview this week. “They have some athletes but I think were the better team, and if we play like we should, we should come out and win Friday,” said junior defensive end Daniel Carson. |
