Tyler Rathke has already proved himself to be a positive addition to the bear family in the short six months that he’s been here.
“At first I thought he was really intimidating and strict.” says junior Dominik Ortiz “But as the days went by I saw him become really involved in his students progress. He’s really selfless and is willing to take time out of his day to work with his students individually to make sure they get their work done.”
Rathke is a new coach for the William Chrisman track and boys basketball teams.
He previously coached at Cloud County Community College for two years.
Although this isn’t his first year of coaching, this is his first year of teaching, however seems like a pro at it.
“He pushes you as a student to be the best person you can be. He sees the potential in you and what you’re capable of and pushes you max out at your best.” says sophomore Faith Kolb
Whether it’s coaching on the court, or teaching in the classroom or in the weight room, Rathke invests his time and energy into bettering his students and athletes.
“I really enjoy seeing the growth of individuals, whether it’s in the classroom, out on the field. I just make it a goal to make a positive impact on them.” says Mr. Rathke
His desire to coach has driven him to be a teacher and they work hand in hand in his goals to better individuals.
“Coaching actually got me into teaching and I enjoy doing both here at Chrisman.” says Rathke
Rathke’s positive impact does carry onto the court as well.
One of his basketball players, Davion Lopez says, “He makes playing fun for us. He tries to help us keep a positive mindset even when things aren’t going our way in games which can cause us to stress or worry.”
“He really pushes his players as well to be the best they can be on the court and always keeps a positive attitude about it as well.” says basketball manager Faith Kolb.
